چکیده

In this chapter we focus on image segmentation techniques for some very special images — textile images. They are generated from the color halftoning technique in textile and printing production lines. In contrast with natural color images, textile images have some very distinctive features: (1) generally there are a few dominant colors in a textile image, whereas there may exist hundreds of significant colors in a natural color image; (2) in the textile industry designers combine threads of different colors, thickness, and densities to produce the visual impression of other colors (the color halftoning technique in textile printing). The fabric texture structure — texture noise — has a great influence on the colors’ appearance in textile images, which makes the color segmentation of textile images a very difficult problem [1]. A typical textile image is shown in Fig.1. According to human visual observation, there are about six dominant colors in the textile image, but when the image is enlarged to the pixellevel, we will find that there are many different colors in perceived uniform color regions as shown in Fig.1. (a) and (b). Four histograms of the spatial variation magnitudes of the four uniform and edge blocks (as shown in Fig.1 (a), (b), (c) and (d)) are illustrated in Fig.2 (Here the spatial variation magnitude is computed as the added value of the two absolute forward differences along the horizontal and vertical directions on the luminance component of each

Persian Printed Document Analysis and Page Segmentation

This paper presents, a hybrid method, low-resolution and high-resolution, for Persian page segmentation. In the low-resolution page segmentation, a pyramidal image structure is constructed for multiscale analysis and segments document image to a set of regions. By high-resolution page segmentation, by connected components analysis, each region is segmented to homogeneous regions and identifyi...

A multiscale graph cut approach to bright-field multiple cell image segmentation using a Bhattacharyya measure

Automatic segmentation of bright-field cell images is important to cell biologists, but is difficult to achieve due to the complex nature of the cells in bright-field images (poor contrast, broken halo, missing boundaries). The standard segmentation techniques, such as the level set method and active contours, are not able to overcome these features of bright-field images. Consequently, poor se...

Multiscale Image Segmentation Using Joint Texture and Shape Analysis

We develop a general framework to simultaneously exploit texture and shape characterization in multiscale image segmentation. By posing multiscale segmentation as a model selection problem, we invoke the powerful framework ooered by minimum description length (MDL). This framework dictates that multiscale segmentation comprises multiscale texture characterization and multiscale shape coding. An...

A Hybrid Method for Segmentation and Visualization of Teeth in Multi-Slice CT scan Images

Introduction: Various computer assisted medical procedures such as dental implant, orthodontic planning, face, jaw and cosmetic surgeries require automatic quantification and volumetric visualization of teeth. In this regard, segmentation is a major step. Material and Methods: In this paper, inspired by our previous experiences and considering the anatomical knowledge of teeth and jaws, we prop...
